On the morning of April 20, Li Zhuofen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, academician of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, and professor of the University of Hong Kong, was appointed as a visiting professor of Guangdong University of Technology. The appointment ceremony was held at the Youth Lecture Hall of the Cultural Activity Center. More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including Qiu Xueqing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GDUT Committee and President; Zhu Weiwei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GDUT Committee; heads of the Office of CPC GDUT Committee, President's Office, Graduate School, Personnel Department, International Office, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Institute for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, as well as student and teacher representatives. The ceremony was presided over by Zhu Weiwei.
In his speech, Qiu Xueqing elaborated on Academician Li Zhuofen's outstanding academic achievements and profound patriotism. He emphasized that Academician Li's appointment as a visiting professor of the university will further gather high-quality academic resources, strongly promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Institute for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, deepen exchanges and cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and help the civil engineering-related disciplines achieve leapfrog development.
Academician Li Zhuofen expressed his gratitude for the trust and support of GDUT. Combining the national strategic needs and the development reality of the Greater Bay Area, he shared his thoughts and prospects on the intelligent development of civil engineering and natural disaster risk prevention and control. He stated that he would actively support the disciplinary development, scientific research innovation and talent training in relevant fields of the university.
