"Great Bay Area Immersive Experience Project with Credit Recognition" by PolyU-GDUT successfully Completed


From January 6th to 11th, the "Great Bay Area Immersive Experience Project with Credit Recognition" (hereinafter referred to as the "Credit System Project") jointly planned by Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Guangdong University of Technology was successfully implemented in Guangzhou. A total of 26 undergraduates from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and 12 from GDUT participated in this project. Through a week-long study of entrepreneurship theory courses, field visits to enterprises in Greater Bay Area, theme report by industry experts, prototype design practice and characteristic intangible cultural experience, their knowledge system of innovation and entrepreneurship will be further improved.

On the afternoon of January 11th, the closing ceremony and sharing meeting of the credit system project were held in the National Innovation Hub of GDUT. Yu Lin, Vice President of GDUT, and Zhao Ruheng, Vice President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 50 people attended the event, including heads of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Department, Management and Marketing Department of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, relevant heads of Academic Affairs Office, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, General Education Center, Innovation and Entrepreneurship College of GDUT and other representatives.

 Yu Lin said in his speech that the credit system project is not only an important attempt for the two universities to collaboratively cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial talents across borders, but also a broad platform to promote innovation and entrepreneurship exchanges and cooperation among students from the two universities. He hopes that students will take this project as an opportunity to further strengthen contact and exchang, and use what they have learned to serve the industrial upgrading of the Bay Area and the economic and social development of Guangdong and Hong Kong through joint competitions and joint entrepreneurship, and make due contributions to the promotion of Chinese-style modernization. It is hoped that the two universities will solidify and develop the achievements of this project. At the same time, further improving the innovation and entrepreneurship exchange and cooperation mechanism will not only promote the in-depth cooperation between students of the two universities in scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship, but also promote the cooperation between teachers of the two universities in scientific research and achievement transformation, so as to jointly create a new model of high-level scientific research cooperation between universities in Guangdong and Hong Kong.

Zhao Ruheng highly affirmed the organization of this project and the fruitful results achieved, and congratulated the students on their full harvest. He said that the students teamed up to learn entrepreneurial knowledge, visited enterprises on the spot, collided with innovative ideas, and quickly completed the prototype design and solutions for the needs of enterprises within five days, so as to accumulate valuable experience for everyone's future study, work and entrepreneurship. He hopes that this project will further deepen the cooperation between the two universities, promote the entrepreneurial projects of students and carry out cooperation in cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents in various fields to jointly promote the development of innovation and entrepreneurship in Greater Bay Area.

Relying on the disciplinary advantages of the Department of Management and Marketing of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, this project focuses on cultivating and improving students' design ability through a series of tailor-made core theoretical courses, learning the training methods of design sprint, mastering the creativity cultivation methods that are popular all over the world. Enterprises were invited to ask questions, and students taking the lead for the challenges, and carry out joint innovation practice around the real project needs of enterprises.

At GDUT, students walked into the national innovation hub, experienced 3D printing, laser cutting and other engineering tools. They also got an experience of the intangible traditional arts and cultures such as guqin, seal cutting and shadow play in depth at general education center. They wen to visit the leading enterprises in Greater Bay Area such as GAC Aian, Midea Group, and CVTE Electronics, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Incubator. The students had face-to-face communication with enterprise engineers and business personnel through on-the-spot visits to understand the "what they want and need" in the development of enterprises, and jointly formed teams to carry out innovative practices such as product prototyping, product scheme design, technical route optimization, and business plan improvement.

Students have expressed that they have gained a lot by participating in this activity.
