On December 8, 2024, the "The Area Studies Forum 2024: Global South and Global Governance" organized by Guangdong University of Technology and hosted by the Institute of Global Governance and Regional Countries and the School of Foreign Languages of GDUT was held. Nearly 40 experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Wu Zhicheng, Dean of the Institute of International Strategy of the Party School of CPC (National School of Administration), Li Kaisheng, Vice President of Shanghai Institute of International Studies, and Yuan Dongzhen, former deputy director of the Institute of Latin American Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the meeting. Chen Zhuowu, deputy secretary of the CPC GDUT Committee and director of the Institute of Global Governance and Regional Countries, and leaders of relevant departments and colleges attended the forum.
Chen Zhuowu delivered an opening speech, introducing to the guests the leap-forward development process, breakthrough progress and landmark achievements of GDUT in the past 66 years, as well as the positive contributions made by the Institute of Global Governance and Regional Country to promoting common development, improving the global governance system and practicing Community of Shared Future for Mankind. He mentioned that major changes unseen in a century are accelerating, and the global South is a key force in the transformation of the international order. As an important member of the Global South, China has always cared about the Global South, taken root in the Global South, and gathered the majestic forces of the Global South to promote the construction of Community of Shared Future for Mankind.
Mr. Lin Kaihu, first-class researcher of Guangzhou Municipal Committee of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, delivered a speech. He highly affirmed the development achievements of GDUT and the work carried out by the Institute of Global Governance and Regional Countries. He emphasized that Guangzhou Council for the Promotion of International Trade has been actively maintaining extensive and in-depth economic and trade exchanges with countries in the global south, and is committed to promoting cooperation and development between the two sides. Professor Wu Zhicheng, Dean of the Institute of International Strategy of the Party School of CPC (National School of Administration), pointed out that the Global South has become an important force influencing the world economic and political structure, promoting the reform of the global governance system. However, the current system is unfair and unreasonable, and the Global South needs to carry forward its own spirit, build consensus and promote system reform.
Dozens of experts in this field also attended the forum and spoke on related issues.
