In order to implement the "1 +2 +3 Climbing and Supporting Plan" strategy, strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, and broaden the students’ international horizons and improve their cross-cultural communication skills, the first International Science and Innovation Camp of Guangdong University of Technology was successfully launched on January 3, 2024.
14 college students from Milan Polytechnic University in Italy, St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design in Russia, Exeter University in UK, Dankook University in South Korea and 20 outstanding students of GDUT gathered to participate in the one-week International Science and Innovation Camp. The Camp will offer rich and diverse activities such as innovation and entrepreneurship exchanges, visits to well-known enterprises, and distinctive cultural experiences, which will make the members to feel the development achievements of Greater Bay Area's frontier industries with high tech, experience Lingnan culture and ritual, and at the same time strengthen friendly exchanges. The activities will also stimulate the inspiration of science and technology innovation of the members. The Camp is jointly sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and the International Office, and undertaken by the School of Information Engineering and the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
On the morning of January 3rd, the Camp officially opened in the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base — Integration Innovation Valley of GDUT. Chen Zhuowu, deputy secretary of the CPC GDUT Committee, Zhang Xueli, member of the CPC GDUT standing Committee and deputy president, attended the ceremony, and heads of departments such as Office of Student Affairs, Graduate School, International Office, Integrated Media Center, School of Information Engineering and Innovation and Entrepreneurship College attended the ceremony as well.
Chen Zhuowu expressed his gratitude to the universities that supported this international camp, and extended a warm welcome to foreign students from afar. He pointed out that the international camp is a useful platform to promote the exchanges of scientific and technological thinking between students of GDUT and foreign students, and promote mutual learning and exchange.
“Holding this international camp with the participation of Chinese and foreign students is an important embodiment of our school's practice of adhering to mutual integration and exchange, openness and innovation in educating people.” He hopes that all campers will vigorously promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign youth through various scientific and technological innovation activities and practical exercises, constantly consolidate the social and public foundation of friendly relations between China and other countries, and contribute wisdom and strength to the prosperity and progress of human civilization!
Eleonora, a student from Milan Polytechnic University, expressed her expectation and yearning for the camp, expecting to feel the rich science and technology atmosphere during the visit of famous enterprises, gain special science and technology experience in the exchange and sharing of innovation and entrepreneurship projects, “China's long-standing historical civilization and vibrant modern culture appeals to me very much”.
This international camp consists of the visit to leading enterprises in Greater Bay Area, the activities of cultural experience with Guangdong characteristics, and the innovation and entrepreneurship workshop. It signifies a solid step for our school to innovate and enrich international exchange forms, which is conducive to further promoting the introduction of foreign high-quality educational resources. It would further mobilize the enthusiasm of the whole staff to carry out international cooperation and exchange activities, thus comprehensively enhancing the international reputation and influence of GDUT, and providing international support for the high-quality development of the school.
