On November 12th, the Development Conference of the 65th Anniversary of Undergraduate Education of Guangdong University of Technology was held in its gymnasium in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center campus.
On behalf of more than 60,000 students and faculty members from six campuses in two cities of GDUT, Hu Qintai expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, guests, alumni at home and abroad and representatives from all walks of life who have supported the development of GDUT. "Over the past 65 years, Guangdong University of Technology has always been rooted in South Guangdong, based on the Bay Area, embracing the motherland and keeping eyes on the world, and endeavoring to provide education to the satisfaction of the people." He said that standing on a new historical starting point, Guangdong University of Technology will always adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era as its guide, thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Party Congress, uphold fundamental principles and break new ground, embrace the world, anchor the goal of building a high-level innovative university, ride the wind and waves and climb the peak, actively making GDUT’S contribution to building a nation leading in education, science and technology, and cultivation of talents.
Qiu Xueqing pointed out in the report that Guangdong University of Technology started undergraduate education in 1958, and has experienced three historic leaps in the development process of "expanding the scale", "expanding the space", "leveling up", and is making every effort to promote the "1+2+3" Climbing and Supporting Plan for discipline enhancement project, which is in the fourth historic leap of "climbing the peak". Looking back, GDUT has taken the road of belief with staying rooted in South Guangdong with serving the country; the road of progress with seizing the opportunity to achieve leapfrog development; the road of innovation with advancing with the times and focusing on reform and innovation; and the road of spirit with emphasis on unity and diligence, seeking truth and innovation. Looking into the future, GDUT will adhere to the principle of cultivating people with moral integrity and cultivate talents as the pillars of the nation, serve the national strategy and enhance the strength of science and technology, build a highland of talents and create first-class teachers, and broaden the international vision and accelerate the internationalization of school running. He emphasized that "the university will follow the three-step strategic development vision and unswervingly take the road of high-quality connotative development, so as to make new and greater contributions to the comprehensive construction of a modernized socialist country and the comprehensive advancement of the great rejuvenation of China."
Academician Yang Zhifeng addressed the conference on behalf of the entire university faculty and staff. He said, "I am deeply honored to join this vigorous team." GDUT has insisted on implementing the strategy of strengthening the university with talents, leading educational excellence, academic excellence and cultural competence with a diversified system of high-level faculty. With the new journey and new responsibility, the faculty and staff of the university will vigorously inherit and carry forward the educator's spirit, strengthen the foundation of education with the strength of all faculty and staff, and work hard to build a world-class high-level university.
Presidents of South China University of Technology, The Hongkong Polytechnic University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Guangdong Academy of Sciences and Alumni representatives have delivered congratulatory speeches as well. The launching ceremony of Alumni Entrepreneurs Union and Alumni Industry fund were carried out, and enterprises, universities and GDUT have signed contracts for cooperation. And more than 260 organizations and international partners have sent congratulation letters and videos to express their good wishes.
