President Qiu Xueqing Attended the Science Forum of Greater Bay Area 2021 and Signed the Co- Construction Framework Agreement

From December 11 to 13, the Science Forum of Greater Bay Area 2021 with the theme of "Exploring Future and Sharing Science" was held in Guangzhou. More than 100 academicians and experts from all over the world gathered in this grand gathering of scientists to discuss important topics such as the development trend of world science and its impact on the future. President Qiu Xueqing attended the opening ceremony and the main forum. He walked through the "Scientists’ Channel" with Chinese and foreign academicians and experts, and shared his insights of the main theme.

At the marine science sub-forum on December 12, Guangdong University of technology and Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Southern Marine Science and Engineering (Guangzhou) (hereinafter referred to as "Guangzhou Marine Laboratory") signed the agreement to jointly build the Coastal and Deep-Sea Ecological Environment Research Center. Pan Delu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhang Si, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Qiu Xueqing, President of GDUT, Liang Qinru, member of the CPC commitee of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and Wu Linbo, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangzhou municipal government witnessed the signing. Vice President Yang Aimin and Sun Longtao, deputy director of Guangzhou Marine Laboratory signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

The Coastal and Deep-Sea Ecological Environment Research Center will give full play to the advantages of both sides. Taking Guangdong University of Technology as the supporting unit, the center aimed at facing the major national strategic needs of China's construction of marine power and marine community of destiny, focusing on the major scientific frontier of coastal and deep-sea environmental ecological protection and restoration under global change. It based itself on the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and the South China Sea, carrying out research and development in coastal wetland environmental protection and ecological restoration, land and sea overall planning and sustainable development of coastal zone, marine energy resources development and environmental ecological effects, marine carbon fixation mechanism and negative carbon technology. It aims at realizing the construction of world-class Bay Area in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay area and China's national strategic goal of "emission peak and carbon neutrality".
