On December 3, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony was held at the Diaoyutai Hotel in Beijing. This year, the award was awarded to a total of 56 outstanding scientific and technological workers. Professor Qiu Xueqing, academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering and president of GDUT, won the "Science and Technology Progress Award" of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation.
Qiu Xueqing has devoted himself to lignin research since 1995, overcome a series of world problems in lignin modification and engineering application, established lignin microstructure theory and control technology, innovated the key technologies of industrial lignin and papermaking waste liquid to prepare high value-added industrial surfactants and functional materials. This achievement succeeded in "turning waste into treasure" and making outstanding contributions to the high-value utilization of plant resources and contributing to the strategic goal of "double carbon". In view of the weak research foundation and difficult industrialization in the field of lignin research, Qiu Xueqing, as the academic leader of the team, has built a scientific research team, composed of more than 20 teachers and more than 200 graduate students. More than 20 kinds of products in eight series derived from their achievement, and was in production in 13 basis in 8 provinces and cities across the country, and have been applied in more than 20 provinces and cities, overcoming bottleneck utilization of high-value lignin and filling the research gap domestically.
