On May 17,delegates of the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council, led by thechairman Mr. Joaquim Mouratosu and accompanied by authorities from Departmentof Education of Guangdong Province, visited GDUT where meeting for the exchangeof polytechnic universities from Guangdong and Portuguesewas held. Representatives of polytechnicuniversities from both sides made an introduction of their subject features andreached a consensus on the exchange and cooperation in education, culture andscientific research.
Mr. Li Jinjun,Deputy Director of the Exchange and Cooperation Office of Department ofEducation of Guangdong Province, held the meeting. Firstly, the Deputy PartySecretary of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Mr. Jing Lihuexpressed warm welcome to the delegates from Portugal. He pointed that disciplinesof polytechnic universities are closely linked with industry development,providing talent and technological support and playing a prominent role in thedevelopment strategy driven by innovation. Then, Mr. Li Jinjun introduced the "high-leveluniversity construction project" launched in 2015, and the related workabout the construction of the provincial high-level polytechnic universities,showing that the Department of Education of Guangdong Province was committed topromoting the cooperation between Guangdong universities and others in HongKong, Macao, Portugal, Russia etc. and looking forward to more academiccooperation with Portuguese universities for the better establishment of ourhigh-level universities.
Mr. Joaquim Mouratosu,the chairman of the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council, appreciatedthe warm reception of GDUT and introduced the profile of the PortuguesePolytechnics Coordinating Council and Portuguese polytechnic universities,hoping that universities from two sides share achievements in technology、language and culture.
Representatives ofuniversities from Guangdong and Portugal, such as South China University ofTechnology, Foshan Institute of Science and Technology, Coimbra School ofNursing, Leiria Polytechnic Institute etc., made a brief introductionrespectively of their universities. As the host of the meeting, Vice PresidentZhang Li expressed warm welcome to all visitors and invited Portuguese gueststo visit the key laboratories, hoping to establish cooperative relations in jointlaboratories, transformation of scientific achievements, personnel training.
In the end, Mr. Armando Pires,Head of International Relations of the Portuguese Polytechnics CoordinatingCouncil, spoke highly of the schooling scale and philosophy of universities inGuangdong, wishing to reach more consensus on cooperation in the future.
